      Description

M92 was first discovered in 1777 by Johann Elert Bode. Although it is often overlooked in favor of the nearby M13 globular, M92 is among the brightest globular cluster in the sky--both in terms of apparent and absolute brightness. It contains mostly hydrogen and helium with very little heavier elements. It's age is estimated to be 14.2 +/- 1.2 B-yrs, which is roughly the age of the universe itself. It is very interesting to ponder the mechanics that have kept such a tight cluster of stars from collapsing since the beginning of time.

This should have been an easy target but it wasn't. I've been fighting a lot of equipment/software gremlins that I've concluded may be due to a ground-loop in my wiring. I've got a solution pending but that's a story for another time. The net result of all of my equipment problems is that what should have been a quick one night project, stretched out over 5 nights of effort. Taking data over so much time really makes it hard to quickly process the result since I had different seeing, sky brightness, and then the moon finally came up while I struggled to get enough data. This image is about 90% of the full frame from the 16803 sensor so it's a pretty big field for the C14E.
